AFREhealth–ScholarRx Open Education Microgrants & Curriculum Development Award

ScholarRx is proud to partner with the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) to support African health professions educators in developing open-access, peer-reviewed educational resources using the Rx Bricks platform.

Together, AFREhealth and ScholarRx are advancing high-quality, shareable learning materials aligned with priority areas in health professions education across Africa.

About the Partnership

AFREhealth is an interprofessional network dedicated to strengthening health professions education, research, and service delivery across Africa. Through our partnership with AFREhealth, ScholarRx is supporting the development, peer review, and open dissemination of high-quality Rx Bricks aligned with AFREhealth’s strategic priorities.

Together, we are co-developing open-access, customizable learning modules and advancing faculty development initiatives to expand accessible, context-relevant health professions education across the continent.

Purpose of the Award

This grant initiative aims to:

  • Support African educators in developing open-access Rx Bricks

  • Advance priority areas in health professions education, including educational technology, leadership, research training, assessment, curriculum development, clinical teaching, AI in healthcare, and health systems strengthening

  • Strengthen interprofessional education (IPE) across AFREhealth member institutions

  • Expand high-quality open educational resources (OER) for use throughout Africa

Grant Categories

Two award types are available:

Individual Educator Microgrants

  • USD 500
  • Up to five awards
  • For development of one or more open-access Rx Bricks

Curriculum or Training Program Development Grant

  • USD 2,500
  • Up to 200 one-year Rx Bricks subscriptions
  • One institutional award to support a coordinated curriculum or training initiative

ScholarRx’s Role

ScholarRx provides:

  • Access to the Bricks Create authoring platform

  • Training and onboarding support for selected awardees

  • Publication through the open-access Brick Exchange

  • Peer review and quality assurance collaboration

All funded outputs will be published as open-access Rx Bricks to support broader dissemination and reuse across health professions education in Africa.

ScholarRx partners with medical schools and health professions institutions worldwide to support curriculum innovation, faculty development, and high-quality assessment through modular, competency-aligned learning tools.
