The Rx Bricks Flipped Classroom Active Learning Experience

In this one-hour session, participants will explore the application of the Rx Bricks to active learning in modern medical education.

Teaching materials developed for a flipped classroom active learning session in cardiovascular physiology will frame large group discussions and demonstrate how medical educators utilize the Bricks curriculum and Qmax assessment bank to support best practices.

Relevant teaching and learning theories and instructional design principles will be highlighted throughout. Upon conclusion, participants will be able to describe the many ways medical educators benefit from utilizing Rx Bricks in the development and delivery of active learning at their home institution.

During this interactive session, you will learn how to:

  • Apply essential learning principles to educational practices using Rx Bricks and Qmax assessments.
  • Create session plans and resources that align with best practices in instructional design using Rx Bricks.
  • Construct integrated, flipped classroom, active learning experiences that support the application of knowledge using Rx Bricks.

This interactive session follows the flipped classroom model and encourages pre-work prior to the session.

Meet the Presenter:

  • Amber Heck Headshot

    Amber J. Heck, PhD

    Dr. Heck is the Director of Basic Science Curriculum at ScholarRx. Dr. Heck received her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, Texas. She has 11 years of experience in undergraduate medical education and has served as a leader in education, research, and faculty development. She has 9 years developing and delivering integrated, flipped classroom active learning.

    Throughout her career, Dr. Heck has created novel interventions to promote learner success in early medical education, helping students build a strong foundational knowledge of the basic sciences and develop non-cognitive skills necessary to succeed in medical school. Dr. Heck is active within the medical education community and contributes to scholarship and faculty development internationally.
